Color Stain for Decorating and Coloring

Wood stain is a concentrated colorant that is diluted with various types of thinners - water-based or chemical.

Color stain is intended for coloring all types of wooden surfaces and products made from hard and soft wood. It is not opaque but has a transparent consistency, which allows the natural grain of the wood to remain visible while giving it a new unique color.

It can be used to color and decorate any item from the interior and exterior of your home - cabinets, shelves, stands, chests of drawers, doors, garden furniture, gazebos, paneling, railings, fences, and more.

The product has the ability to penetrate deeply, highlighting the texture of the wood and ensuring color durability and stability. Stains are available in different color ranges - white, black, brown, green, red, blue, and more. The process of coloring wood with stain is called staining.

Types

Stains are divided into two types - water-based and chemical. Water-based stains are sold in powder or crystal form and are diluted with water. Chemical stains are sold in liquid form and are diluted with acetone or alcohol.

The type of stain and the thinner used determine the working technique - staining. In the EM ART online store, you will find color stain for coloring and decorating Lorca wood.

The manufacturer offers 9 unique shades in convenient 75 ml jars - red, blue, ochre, orange, purple, brown, green, yellow, and white. Each with good coverage and resistant to weather changes.

Intended for coloring all types of raw untreated wood - beams, boards, veneer, furniture, etc. It is applied very easily and quickly, without requiring special skills or the use of tools.

Application

Color stain offers a new possibility for coloring wood, without any color limitations. It helps to achieve unique shades by bringing out the natural grain and making it clear and visible.

It is used for:

1. Repainting Furniture

Today, there are so many materials and techniques that completely replace buying new home items. Color stains are one of them. They can completely change your old furniture. With them, you will create new, attractive, and extremely beautiful interior solutions.

Along with the stains, you can also use the decoupage technique to transform any piece of furniture in an interesting way. If you are tired of the current look of your home or don’t have the possibility to change the entire furniture, color stain is an ideal way to do this.

With it, you will transform any furniture - chests of drawers, cabinets, trunks, shelves, stands, coffee tables, TV tables, beds, headboards, paneling, and more.

You can even change desk lamps and other items that are part of your home decoration.

You will need the following materials:

  • The item you want to decorate - for example, a chair, table, or cabinet
  • Color stains in shades of your choice. If combining with the decoupage technique, get beautiful napkins with interesting motifs, leather, or fabric
  • Scissors
  • Sandpaper to prepare the surface you will glue on and for subsequent sanding after applying the stain
  • Glue (if using the decoupage technique)
  • Brush or sponge for applying the stain
  • Acrylic paints;
  • Wood varnish

Regardless of the type of stain you use, it can be applied with a brush, sponge, cloth, rag, gun, etc. After applying, it needs to dry for a few hours. Stains diluted with acetone dry faster, while those with water dry more slowly.

It is important to know that the same stain, applied to different types of wood -beech, oak, walnut, pine, will look different. This can also happen when using the same stain on the same type of wood but applied in different amounts and at different times.

The difference when applying with the three types of materials is as follows:

  • Applying stain with a brush - Applying with a brush requires greater precision and some experience from the person doing the staining, as we know well that the brush leaves marks that we must try to avoid. With this method, the color becomes denser and more intense.
  • Applying with a cloth - When applying stain with a cloth, the layers become softer and more transparent, as the cloth simultaneously applies and wipes away (removes) part of the color stain. Applied in this way, it dries faster.
  • Applying with a sponge - This is one of the most commonly used methods for staining. With it, the sponge simultaneously gives and removes the material. It also applies and at the same time wipes away, but since it has a denser texture similar to a brush, it needs more solid wiping.

Interestingly, with the different methods of applying stains, the same color, applied in different ways - with a sponge, brush, or cloth, can give us three different shades.

This is another advantage of this wood material. With one color, you get three different shades. Thus, there will be no need to buy different stains.

Moreover, the tones of the same wood stain can be changed by the number of layers you apply. The color that will be obtained also depends on the type of wood, its dryness, and the place where it grew.

The material is ideal for repainting furniture in the children’s room - the crib, the cradle, the student’s desk, the cabinets, the wardrobes. Not only will you transform the child’s room, but you will also bring mood, coziness, and variety to its corner. The rich choice of colors allows you to create different styles in the furnishing - rustic, provincial, mountain interiors.

The material is suitable for treating garden items - fences, benches, chairs, gazebos. It is resistant to sunlight, does not fade, and retains its intense color for a long time.

Thanks to the wood stains, you will make the garden a magical place for relaxation. The old benches and chairs will gain a new look.

When painting garden furniture, it is advisable to seal the stain with waterproof varnish. The color stain can be combined with other materials - acrylic, tempera, water paints, as well as various metal handles, fittings, needles, draperies, etc.

After staining, it is desirable to varnish the wooden surface. This way, you will preserve the colors for a long time, protect the wood from moisture penetration, and give it a beautiful glossy finish.

2.Decorating Small Wooden Items

  • Jewelry Boxes

With the help of color stains, you can create interesting jewelry boxes, chests, boxes for storing clothes, makeup, and spices.

To do this, you will need - wooden boxes, napkins with beautiful motifs, decoupage glue, a soft brush, scissors, a water container, a container for glue, wood or water-based varnish.

You can also get water and acrylic paints for retouching, as well as additional decorations - stones, glitter, elements made of wood, metal, or plastic, ribbons, lace, artificial flowers, etc.

If the item you are decorating is darker, you will need to lighten it beforehand with sandpaper to apply the stain. If it is lighter, there is no need for this.

Consider how you want your box to look. You can repaint it both inside and out. Once you have a clear concept for the design of the box, proceed to staining.

You can start with the lid and the outside. Use different application techniques and several colors of stain if you want to achieve a more interesting look for the box. Let it dry, and if you want the color to become even more intense, repeat with another layer.

Finish by applying varnish. If desired, you can use decoupage again to further decorate the surface. Use napkins with interesting motifs that you can stick on some part of the box.

Using decoupage glue, stick the chosen decoration onto the already stained surface. It is good to know that on untreated wood with paint or varnish, the fine decoration will stick immediately, and any attempt to move or reposition it will lead to tearing of the napkin.

Then you can continue decorating the other sides of the box, maintaining the same method of work.

The choice of napkins for decoupage is very large. There are models with unique landscapes - winter, autumn, Christmas, festive, with flowers, animals, and many more. In addition to napkins, you can make original boxes with the help of fabrics with interesting motifs, as well as leather, cutting out applications of your choice.

You can additionally decorate with other types of paints, stones, beads, metal fittings. It is up to your imagination to choose what exactly you want to do and how you want your box to look.

  • Processing Wooden Frames for Photos, Paintings, and Mirrors

Color stains are the most suitable material for beautifying all types of wooden frames for photos, paintings, and mirrors. Make the dull frames colorful and full of mood.

Choose a stain in a shade of your choice and apply it to the raw wood. Apply as many layers as you want the frame to become saturated.

This way, you will create unique color accents for any room. Stains are suitable for coloring the frames of mirrors, paintings, and photos. Thus, these items will also have a decorative function in your home.

This is an easy and quick way to add freshness and color to your home interior. For extra shine, add small decorative elements to accentuate the finished stained frames. Use glitter, stones, ribbons, elements of metal, plastic, and wood for additional beautification.

Before you start staining wooden items, you need to follow these steps:

  1. First, clean the wood from dust. Make sure there are no greasy spots on it. It is advisable to lightly sand the surface.
  2. Apply the color stain with a brush or sponge, without layering. It is good to know that raw wood absorbs immediately.
  3. After applying, wait a few minutes and use a dry cloth to remove the excess paint.
  4. Let the stain dry for 2-3 hours at room temperature.
  5. Start sanding with a flat sandpaper with a number above 100. You will see how the stain starts to fall off like a fine color dust. This way, the light wood grains will start to stand out. You can also use a vibrating sander. With it, you need to be careful only with the edges. Determine yourself when to stop. Whether you want the natural wood fibers to be more or less visible. During sanding, wipe with a damp cloth to get an idea of the resulting color.
  6. Optionally varnish with wood varnish. Apply as many layers as you decide. Varnishing makes the colors much brighter and more intense.

If you are one of the creators who have not yet experienced the magic of color stain for decoration, do not miss to do so. To get acquainted with the ways of working with the material, look for manuals for artists and videos made by hobby masters, where you will draw valuable information about this method

You will see for yourself how easy they are to use and you will fall in love with the final results you will get with them.
