Our decorative MDF figurines are made of wood processed by breaking down hardwood or softwood scraps into wood fibers. This is usually done using a defibrator, then combined with wax and another binder such as resin and shaped into panels by high temperature and pressure.

MDF figurines: pros and cons

Figures that are in their natural color can be decorated or colored as we mentioned a little above. However, there are several advantages and disadvantages that we will look at:

 

Pros

• When painting, they absorb the paint very well;
• Wood glue absorbs perfectly into them;
• They are subject to processing by means of many and various decoration techniques;

 

Cons

• Their only drawback is that if they are not varnished, that is, not sealed well after processing, and accidentally fall into a damp or wet environment, MDF objects can deform, warp or expand;

 

How to decorate an MDF object using the decoupage technique

In the simplest terms, decoupage technique is cutting out different elements from paper or napkins and gluing them to objects of a different nature using glue and a lot of varnish.

Every single object at home can be decorated using the decoupage technique. What we should note is that regardless of the surface before we start decorating it is necessary to put a light or white base for the background. 1. Once you have chosen the MDF item you want, it needs to be cleaned very well, both on the outside and inside.
2. The next step is to choose the exact motif you want and carefully cut it out using the scissors. If you are using a napkin, separate the top layer of it, since that is what you will be using.
3. Choose the exact spot where you want to place the napkin and place it right there. Apply the glue on it with a brush, moving from the middle to the edges to expel the air.
4. Wait for the glue to dry and as a final step you varnish the object with a clear acrylic varnish and you are done!
